Improvisation, discovery, and surprise
Riga Pasaules film festival 2017 programme "Revealing the Unexpected" features non-fiction films that contain within their narrative and form the unforeseen dynamics at play in documentary production. This year's programme intends to contribute to a discussion that values the creative potential of happenstance, discovery, and surprise as central aspects of filmmaking.
The festival will hold a retrospective and masterclass on the work of documentary filmmaker Sean McAllister. His candid, frank films depict with extraordinary intimacy the lives of ordinary people who are struggling to survive but who are survivors; intelligent and resourceful people caught up in political turmoil and personal conflict.
The festival is held at the art-house cinema “Kino Bize” in Riga, Latvia.
