RPFF industry: Panel discussion "Anthropological Film Programming in Europe"

RPFF industrija: Paneļdiskusija "Antropoloģisko filmu programmēšana Eiropā"

Panel discussion

90 min

This panel convenes anthropological film festival curators from across Europe to discuss the challenges and opportunities of contemporary film festival programming. In English. Free entrance.

The panellists will describe how they negotiate their creative vision with practical constraints within their specific contexts. The panel discussion will consider how local discourses and funding structures inform curatorial decisions and the film festival’s identity. The goal of the panel is to offer a space to discuss different perspectives on the boundaries curators respect and those they seek to transgress. The panel will provide a space to compare and contrast curating practices across Europe and identify concrete ways to develop the anthropological film festival network in Europe. This panel would be of interest to film festival curators, filmmakers who would like to familiarize themselves with the anthropological film festival landscape in Europe, and well as the general public.

Participants: Eddy Appels (Missiemuseum Steyl, NL), Peter I. Crawford (NAFA International Ethnographic Film Festival, Norway), Ivan Maksimovic (International Festival of Ethnological Film, Serbia), Konstantinos Aivaliotis (Ethnofest, Greece). Moderated by festival curator Carlo A. Cubero

RPFF 2025 industry sessions supported by National Film Centre of Latvia and Creative Europe MEDIA.
